The Story Behind Boogey Bum
How a silly story became a family adventure!
Story Time with Mimi began because the Piper Kids love reading, listening to stories, and using their imaginations! One of their favorite games is choosing the elements of a story. That's just a fancy word for the different parts of a story, like the characters, setting, and action.
Once the kids choose their story elements, Mimi lets her imagination run wild and creates a one-of-a-kind tale just for them!
Bringing Mimi's Stories Home
The Piper Kids have a little audio player called a Yoto that allows them to listen to their favorite stories whenever they want.
When Mimi tells a story, she records it live. The children's mother can then save the recording onto a special Yoto card made just for Mimi's stories.
Even though Mimi doesn't live close to the Piper Kids, they can hear her voice telling their favorite stories anytime they want. It's a special way to stay connected, share a few giggles, and make memories together, even when they're miles apart!

And Then Came... Boogey Bum!
In June 2026, the eight-year-old Piper Kid was ready to choose her story element. She announced, "Mimi, tell us a story about a snake named... BOOGEY BUM!"
Everyone giggled!
And just like that, a sleepy, silly snake named Boogey Bum was born!
What started as a spontaneous story became the inspiration for the Boogey Bum storybook and coloring book that children can enjoy today.
Of course, the original story was a little different. It took place in a circus instead of a zoo! But that's the wonderful thing about imagination. Stories can grow and change, and sometimes they become even more fun along the way.
Creating Boogey Bum Together
At first, Mimi planned to create a special book just for the Piper Kids. But before Boogey Bum could make his grand debut, there was one very important question:
What should Boogey Bum look like?
Mimi sat down with the kids, and together they began designing their dancing anaconda.
The four-year-old loves green, so he chose a green cap for Boogey Bum. He and one of his big sisters also insisted that the snake needed a green shirt! One of the other girls insisted on a green snake with yellow spots.
Now, we know what you're thinking. Snakes don't have arms! So how in the world does Boogey Bum keep his shirt on? Well, that's where a little imagination comes in! Together, Mimi and the Piper Kids created the lovable, green, shirt-wearing, hat-loving anaconda you see in the books today.
A Story Too Fun to Keep to Ourselves!
As the book was coming together, the eight-year-old had another wonderful idea. "Mimi, we should make this book so our friends and other kids can read it, too!" And that's exactly what we did!
What began as a silly story shared between a grandmother and her grandchildren has grown into something we are excited to share with children, grandparents, and families everywhere.
Mimi already has lots of other stories recorded for the Piper Kids. And who knows? If other children enjoy Mimi Stories as much as the Piper Kids do, you might just see more of their favorite tales become books, too!
One More Fun Fact!
Story Time with Mimi has its very own special tradition. After the Piper Kids choose their story elements, the oldest makes sure everyone is quiet and ready. Then she reads the official Mimi Story Time Jingle! She sing/yells "Mimiiiiii Storrrrries!"
It's silly. It's fun, and all a part of Story Time with Mimi. For us, these stories are about so much more than books. They're about laughter, imagination, family, and making memories that will last a lifetime.
